这是不是根据某个“反映资本主义假民主假人权”的真人真事改编的呢？这也是Richard Marx Hazard剧组被问得最多的问题。
回答是巨大的“不是”！实际上，歌曲中的名叫Hazard的小镇115年的历史上，从来没有过什么神秘莫测的谋杀或者死亡。
歌词由Richard Marx一手操持。在加利福尼亚，而不是歌曲中的内布拉斯加，拍摄了这首歌的MV。Richard Marx坚持在歌曲
的音乐录影中不出现歌手同步演唱的画面，让整个MV看上去象部电影短片。
从MV来看，主人公“我”是个有着童年阴影的少年。（美国比较喜欢这样解释成年人的怪异行为）。主人公生长在破碎的家庭，父亲跟一个女人走了，而母亲也找了自己的情人。似乎，主人公小时候曾目睹了母亲与情人在床上亲热的场面，于是放火烧了房子。
与这种“童年情景”对应的是，主人公与Mary之间似乎也出现了问题。Mary与人在车里偷情也被主人公发现了。不久，Mary尸体被人从河里找到。
那么，
是主人公“我”杀死了Mary吗？
这首歌有两个MV版本，故事都一样，只是剪辑不同。EMI曾还想拍第三个版本揭露凶手，但被Richard Marx拒绝了，因为“歌曲没说凶手是谁”。
