The Cascades，来自美国加州圣地亚哥的这支乐队是由擅长作曲以及吉他的主唱约翰甘莫 （John
Gummoe）领军的，他在1950年代末期结识了另外四位乐手，由于彼此十分投缘，决定共同组团，在许多私人的宴会上演出，逐渐打响名声。在1962年底，唱片公司把他们带到好莱坞的录音室，帮他们录制第一张单曲「Second
Chance」，虽然并不成功，但是他们的第二张单曲，也就是《Rhythm of the Rain》， 却得到了爆炸性的成功，在流行榜上获得了第三名，同时更勇夺抒情歌曲排行榜的冠军。也他们许生不逢时，在接下来的「Shy
Girl」和「The Last Leaf」两支作品虽然还算受欢迎，但却无法再创以前第二张单曲的高峰了，加上英国披头带来的摇滚狂潮，他们的唱片居然被遭到了冷落，尽管他们继续努力，却依然改变不了过气的命运，渐渐的就在乐坛上消失了，不过庆幸的是他们还有一首真正畅销的歌曲，这首《Rhythm
of the Rain》就成了三十多年以来流行音乐史上最令人难忘的经典之一。
