这里是用上圣经里所罗门王看女子洗澡而爱上该女子的典故。我们知道当爱情到达某种境界，已经和那种敬神的狂喜estacy完全没有分别。而从嘴里引出的Halleluah赞美我主，也分不清是赞美主还是赞美这无与伦比的美与爱情。所以第一段里Cohen这里把Halleluah这个歌，诠释为所罗门王为了他的爱情作的。他检起了大卫愉悦上帝的和弦（the secret chord that david played to please the lord), 作出了Halleluah（composing Halleluah)。 The baffled king是指情思迷乱的国王。 the marble arch 则是所罗门的宫殿。your faith is strong but you need proof.是指国王本来是个虔敬的人，可他还希望神给他考验。考验来了，You saw her bathing on the roof 。然后是：

She tied you to her kitchen chair
She broke your throne and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah

这一段当然不能实译，否则就成了俩人玩SM了（虽然听的时候我颇有此心，想那美人皮裤皮鞭之下从我嘴唇引出一声Halleluah，真让人心兢神荡啊）联系上下文还是国王心理反映，手不能动足不能移，王冠粉碎头发被剪断，混如梦魇，只能叹出一声无限陶醉无限痛苦的Halleluah啊啊啊...

这一段粗略的讲是天不生仲尼万古如长夜，没你在这儿我好孤单，好了现在大理石的拱廊里插满你的旗帜了（你该满意了吧？）。但是爱情并非都是胜利的前行（当中跳过无数点点点点）它只是一声冰冷破碎的Hallelujah...（love is ...a broken Hallelujah这句话他妈的太漂亮了)然后是:

here was a time when you let me know
What's really going on below
But now you never show that to me do ya
But remember when I moved in you
And the holy dove was moving too
And every breath we drew was Hallelujah

完全变成了情人之间的对话，只听得男声的呢喃，曾经有段时间你还愿意向我倾讲，说给我听你的想法和感觉，可现在什么你都不让我知道了。但你还记得我们融合的时候吗，圣鸽扑剌剌的飞起，我们呼出的每一口气都是一句神圣Hallelujah...

到这里男生的心理已经完全吞噬成了一个阴暗的空洞了（not somebody who's seen the light）“谁知道，大概是有个上帝吧，可爱教我牢记在心的，就是如何杀了那个把你带跑的小子。（从此）你听到的，不是一个人夜里的哭泣，甚至不是一个见过阳光的人，你听到的，只是一句冰冷的破碎的Hallelujah...”

这首歌曲由相爱的estacy开始，却结束于无边的苦涩，大概这也就是所谓爱的宿命(Karma))吧。
